The plan was simple: take an old, obsolete hotel and give it a makeover. However, some in the town of Gloucestershire are not happy on exactly how Mystiques plans to change the hotel, which has been a city landmark for over 150 years. Mystiques, the company behind the makeover, plan was to turn the hotel into a hip vegetarian restaurant by day and an exclusive private sex club by night. This prompted many in the community to protest, as they were concerned about the type of potential clientele that would be hanging around their city.
Mystiques was originally encouraged when a planning committee okayed their plan to go ahead with the renovation. This quickly changed, as members of the community, especially large numbers of church groups took to the streets to protest the club, a move which Mystiques claims swayed the next vote.
Contrary to what they were originally led to believe, the controversial club was shot down in a very close vote, which has the owners of Mystiques raising their eyebrows. This is because they felt the vote was just a formality, until the board was pressured by church groups into changing their minds.
Mystiques now questions the validity of the vote, as they claim voters were not being impartial about the plan itself and were voting more out of fear of additional protest.
