Budget car hire brand, Dollar Thrifty, is now offering its customer-choice service to visitors at San Jose International Airport. The operation is the twelfth of its kind to be opened in the US. Dollar Thrifty said that it aims to open at least another 10 customer-choice outlets in cities across the country by the end of this year.

Customer-choice rental facilities are already available in Houston Hobby Airport, Dulles Airport in Washington DC, Houston Intercontinental, Denver, Phoenix, Orlando, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Orlando, Oakland and Ontario California.

Dollar Thrifty’s customer-choice allows customers to book a car hire as they would normally, by specifying the class of the vehicle as well as its size. However, when the customer arrives to collect the vehicle, they are allowed to go onto the lot and choose from any of the vehicles which are currently available in their chosen category. The idea is that the service gives Dollar Thrifty customers a wider range of choice and the ability to pick a vehicle best suited to their needs.

Dollar Thrifty chief executive, Scott Thompson, said that by offering customer-choice, the company was able to streamline the rental process as well as enhance efficiency. He added that it was now the customer who was in charge of choosing the vehicle most fitting to their tastes and needs, and that the process enhanced the customer’s overall rental experience.

According to Dollar Thrifty customer feedback has been extremely positive. The company said that it plans to roll out in cities including Baltimore, Cleveland, Miami and Dallas over the summer and towards the end of the year.
