Avis has agreed to hold off on making a formal offer to acquire Dollar Thrifty so that the two car hire firms can work together to persuade regulators a tie-up will not breach competition rules. The move comes after Hertz failed to secure a positive vote from Dollar shareholders on its takeover bid.
