Rich in history and in culture, Carlisle is one of those places that you should keep in your itinerary if you happen to visit the United Kingdom. It’s a place where you can really see how life used to be back during the medieval times. Seeing the Carlisle castle and the Carlisle Cathedral will really make you feel as if you’ve traveled back in time to that era where the Scots and the English were still at war. And seeing the imposing red sandstone buildings at the center only make the experience more real. If this is not enough for you, however, you can always go to the Tullie House Museum, a local museum that features all of Carlisle’s historical events and houses some of the works of the local artists.

One thing that you should remember though is that you should never ever join a tour group. Trust me, there’s nothing more annoying than hearing the ‘last five minutes’ call when you’re just getting warmed up on a place. It’s better to just avail of a car hire in Carlisle downtown. That way, you get to be your own boss and see what you want to see. It’s way better than traveling with several other tourists.
