East Midlands, as the name suggests, is the eastern central region in England. Bordered by its counterpart, West Midlands, the area boasts a unique variety of urban, rural, and coastal cities which include Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, and Nottinghamshire. The M1 connects these counties and car hire at East Midlands available for transportation.

North West Leicestershire is host to East Midlands largest airport, East Midlands Airport, which services most of the cities in the region. There are other small airports with more limited services. Railway lines going both north and south can be found and East Midlands is a popular stopover for trains heading in both directions. The Lincolnshire coastline is one of the most popular areas in the region. The famous Butlins resort is also located in this area. Nightlife in East Midlands is best in Nottingham or Leicester, where the best pubs and clubs can be found for late nights. Skegness offers some of the best coastal entertainment, however.

Rutland and Lincolnshire make up some of the most serene agricultural farmland in England. East Midland’s boast some of England’s largest bucolic areas. Lincolnshire grows the potatoes used exclusively for Leicester’s Walkers Crisps. Car rental at East Midlands is a good way to enjoy the day on the winding, bucolic roads of Lincolnshire and Rutland.

Mallory Park and Donington Park, located in Leicestershire, are the most notable racetracks, and the Twycross Zoo can be found south of Measham also in Leicestershire.
