When visiting the wonderful island of Tenerife, there are a couple of things that you have to know. One is that you really should get a car hire in Tenerife Airport is an absolute must, especially if you plan to go to El Teide, the highest mountain in all of Spain. With your own car, you can drive to the foot of the mountain, leave your car in the car park, and head to the cables. Another thing you should remember is that there is such a thing as altitude sickness. Most people come to Tenerife to reach the top of El Teide and to see the wonderful view that it offers, but few are prepared for the actual change in altitude. If you think you can handle it, however, then you can take the cable lift to a height of 3550 m, which would take about 10 minutes. If you’re more adventurous than that and you actually want to climb to the summit of El Teide, then you will need to get a special permission from the National Park Office in the city of Santa Cruz. If you have the stamina, then let me assure you that the climb to the top is very much worth it. The view is spectacular, and you can practically see the whole island from there. It’s like being on top of the world.
