Lucca is a Tuscan city located in northern central Italy in a fertile land near the Ligurian Sea. This unique city was able to shield itself from outside influences and became an independent republic for almost five centuries before falling at the hands of Napoleon. Lucca is famous for its well preserved wall that was built during the 16th century. The town’s original Roman layout and stunning architecture has been captivating tourists for ages. The Basilica di San Frediano, with its Romanesque façade and 12th century baptismal font is one of Lucca’s main attractions. Tourists also shouldn’t miss the Duomo di San Martino, the Museo Nazionale and the Giacomo Puccini Villa Museum which was built in honor of the great composer, a native of Lucca.

The town is quite accessible with the nearest airport some 30 minutes away from the city. Buses, taxis and trains are also available but the best mode of transport is by car.
