Boulevard Brune is located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, and is 10kms distant from Charles de Gaulle airport. Two of the city’s main train stations, Gare de Lyon and Gare Montparnasse, are as close as two kilometres from the area, making it a convenient stopping off point for car rental in Paris Brune.
Both Avis and Rent-a –Car have offices along Boulevard Brune itself, with several local companies situated in the same area, allowing easy access to cheap car hire in Paris Brune and its immediate surroundings. Several local hotels will also arrange car hire in Paris Brune. If you plan an extended visit, it is well to remember that Paris is choked with cars, making driving slow and parking difficult.
Boulevard Brune runs through the Montparnasse area, famous for Les Catacombes de Paris. These labyrinthine tunnels, first excavated by the Romans 2,000 years ago, store the neatly packed and arranged bones and skulls removed in the 18th and 19th centuries from the by then overcrowded charnel houses in the city. Dark, morbid, and a fascinating place to visit at least once.
Other local attractions include Parc Montsouris and its spectacular and colour-saturated flower displays. Designed by a famous French landscape artist, Alphand, in 1878 for Baron Haussmann, the Parc, much loved by Parisians, boasts a lake with waterfalls, bronze statues and over 1,400 mature and beautiful trees.
As the area around Montparnasse is home to several universities and their students, a good number of bars, cafés and informal restaurants have sprung up to answer the demand. These venues are very lively and fun, and inexpensive enough to appeal to student budgets. Creperies, in particular, are very popular.
