Portugal’s biggest city and capital is Lisbon, which is known for its historical heritage that you can discover from its buildings and monuments. The city is strategically located on the right bank of the Tagus River that leads to the Atlantic Ocean, while its centre is established on seven hills, contributing to some of the old town’s steep streets.
The heart of Lisbon is just 4 kilometres away from the Aeroporto da Portela, the biggest international airport of Portugal. If you are arriving from that location, arrange for car hire in Lisbon – Cidade in advance so you can have the car prepared for you there. You can use your car to drive to the city and get there in 17 minutes.
Since most of Lisbon’s streets tend to be narrow with tram-lines, one-way points, and jammed with traffic, cheap car hire in Lisbon – Cidade is perhaps better off used as a mode of transportation for trips outside the city. However, if you are familiar with driving in other cities of Europe, you may still find it easy to drive around in Lisbon. To stay away from the city centre, try driving on any of the ring roads like the Cintura Regional Externa de Lisboa and the Cintura Regional Interna de Lisboa.
Trips outside of Lisbon are easier and more convenient if you have your own car. With car rental in Lisbon – Cidade, go to the nearby seaside resorts of Ericeira and Praia das Macas, or cross the bridge of 5 de Abril to get to Almada. From that area, head to destinations like Palmela, Azeitao, and Setubal.
